TOXAMPH - TOXicity mechanisms triggered by AMPHetamine-like compounds in target organs
Sumário:
Synthetic cathinones (SC) emerged in the recreational setting as a new class of psychoactive substances with pharmacological properties resembling those of well-known amphetamines. Apoptotic and autophagic cell death pathways were recently shown to be involved in the toxicity of several psychoactive drugs, but their implications in SC-induced cardiotoxicity remains unknown. This project aims at evaluating the occurrence and contribution of autophagic and apoptotic pathways to cardiotoxicity in H9c2 cells challenged with SC. Moreover, the role of oxidative stress in the regulation of autophagy and apoptosis in response to SC will be investigated.
